Brie Ashlie is a painter based in Houston, Texas. She earned her BFA from Texas State University in 2018, followed by an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis in 2020.
Working primarily in mixed media, Ashlie draws from photographs she takes of her surroundings—capturing bodies, patterns, and structural forms that resonate with her daily experiences. These images become both reference and raw material, guiding a process of intuitive collage through paint. The resulting works invite quiet, layered interactions, blurring the line between subject and composition.
Her paintings explore intimacy, connection, and the ambiguity of self. Through varying levels of visual clarity, Brie Ashlie reflects on boundaries—between people, between moments, and within ourselves—encouraging viewers to engage in acts of looking, sensing, and reflecting.
Carefully composed yet open-ended, her work considers the tangents of experience: the ephemeral threads that link memory, perception, and feeling.
