Brie Ashlie is a Houston-based painter working primarily in acrylic. She draws from photographs of her surroundings as a starting point, capturing bodies, patterns, and botanical forms. Each painting is built by combining elements from different images. Her intuitive collaging process pieces the painting together as she paints rather than planning a fixed composition. Through this approach, her work explores intimacy, connection, and a shifting sense of identity, often blurring the line between subject and composition.
Ashlie’s work considers memory as something constructed rather than fixed, pulling from multiple sources to reflect how moments are formed through accumulation, editing, and reinterpretation. Bright, saturated color heightens the emotional intensity of each piece, pushing the work into a dreamlike space where familiarity and distortion coexist.
Brie has exhibited in several group shows and curated exhibitions. She received her BFA from Texas State University, including a study abroad program in Florence, and her MFA from Washington University in St. Louis. Her work is held in select private collections.
